Did you know that 75% of expats leave Spain within 2 years!

?

Why is it that such a high percentage of Brits who have given up all, for their place in the sun, turn tail for gloomy Britain with their dreams shattered?

?

This misery is completely avoidable.

?

There are three ways you can arm yourself for the Spanish dream: If you're fortunate, come with a lot of Cash and/or a good pension (if you're of pensionable age); Be fore-armed with a well researched, well financed and effective business plan; Get yourself to a high level of spoken Spanish.

?

Coming with a lot of Cash and/or a good pension may facilitate comfort for you, at least initially, in terms of the things that money can buy. Yet without a good level of spoken Spanish you will always be at a disadvantage when dealing with shops, restaurants the police, etc. There are countless stories of people who have come with these supposed financial safeguards yet have lost everything to con men due to a lack of Spanish. My direct family knows of two such cases. In any event without Spanish you will always be marginalized. This condition is an undercurrent to 'the good life' in Spain.

?

Immigrating with a well researched, well financed business plan, but poor Spanish, you will limit your marketplace. You will always be at a disadvantage when dealing with suppliers and service providers. You will also find yourself at the cultural margins of a nation that is welcoming by nature.

?

Arriving on Spanish soil, your ultimate failsafe is being able to talk Spanish. If anything goes wrong with either or both of the first two scenarios, your chances of securing income still remains reasonably high. Without it, your prospects are very low, and you are likely to become part of the 75% who head back to the UK with their vision in tatters.

?

With good spoken Spanish your possibilities are higher in terms of finding jobs in which you are qualified. They are greater for finding jobs with Spanish companies that require staff with fluent English, and with English companies who require personnel with a high level of Spanish.

?

In addition, if all else fails, and you have basic computer/internet skills, you can earn upwards of €2,000 per month translating from Spanish into English through an agency. In fact, these agencies insist that the language you're translating into, is your mother tongue.

?

The material for translation can vary from legal documents, to articles, to user manuals for household or technical items. You can choose your areas of expertise thus keeping the material you translate well within your grasp.

?

There are dozens of translation agencies you can sign up with and once you've built up a portfolio you could find yourself in High demand.

?

My personal business plan failed because the costs spiralled out of control, and everything took twice as long as anticipated. I have managed to stay in Spain due to my high level of Spanish. This allowed me to get a job with a Spanish company while building up a rewarding income in my own time, translating written material from Spanish to English.

?

Thank goodness I learned Spanish at a high level before coming to Spain. There are wonderful, easy to learn courses now available that make it simple for anyone to learn Spanish. One of those is listed in the bio, below.?

?

Whatever you do, make sure your spanish is at a HIGH level, BEFORE moving lock stock and barrel to Spain.
